taking pictures of children

taking pictures of children can be a very challenging and rewarding experience. generally, however, it is frustrating.

may i present exhibits A-G

exhibit A-a boy, his rat, and a stick.

boy, sharky and stick

not bad, but not great, either.

exhibit B- the boy quickly begins to lose interest in the entire process, which is quite obvious to the photographer (who knows what to look for).

exhibit C-

the boy becomes distracted.

to the right

exhibit D-

the rat jumps the shark (aka sharky is tossed into the flowers by the sitter, who then acts greatly wronged because his favorite buddy is now missing).

to the left

exhibit E-

after sharky is retrieved, the sitter quickly decides that this whole “sitting still and smiling” thing really isn’t for him. after all, if sharky doesn’t have to, why should he?

here we come

exhibit F-

while trying to take pictures of the sitter’s sister the sitter decides that moving out of view really isn’t for him. mama has to intervene.

time to go

exhibit G-

the original sitter’s sister, now the main focus of the photographer, takes this opportunity to show her little brother just how it’s done.

and willaim wonders why i have 8,000 photographs stored on the computer.

  1. …priceless…

  2. The second picture (oy) should be titled “Don’t make me come over there.”

  3. I like exhibit B best. 🙂

  4. Yes. The second picture is definitely Finn about to get into fist-a-cuffs with a couple Boston-area hoodlums.
