a weekend to remember, or: the broads take midtown…part one

the weekend before christmas, mack, heather and i took a little trip.

and it was awesome.

the bright lights and big city, baby! the three of us unleashed unescorted in the city, well. that pretty much has to equal awesome, right?

we took the train down friday afternoon, which is by far the best way to travel (in my humble and well traveled opinion). we hung out, had a leisurely lunch, and voila-a mere two and a half hours later we were in new york city!

we quickly acclimated to the hustle and bustle, quite confident that we totally blended in, despite hauling our suitcases down the sidewalk in search of our hotel and commenting on just how many starbucks there really are.

although we may have identified ourselves as country girls when we made dinner reservations for a mexican place a few blocks down from our hotel…for five o’clock.

we showed up and the place was empty, but we did have some killer guacamole.

which cost $16.

but, it was really good. so that’s a plus.

but eating aside, our main reason for going down this weekend was to see a couple of shows. mack discovered that two of our favorite musicians, marcus foster and bobby long, just so happened to be ending their north american tours friday and saturday night, respectively, at the mercury lounge on houston. so we got our tickets, scored a great rate for a midtown hotel via priceline, and away we went.

and the shows? they were worth the trip.

marcus foster was friday night, and not only was he amusing and amazing, to top the evening off, mack went up to him after the show and said “hey, would you mind signing my meatbagz?”

his response was perfect. not only did he sign it for her, he cracked up, declared meatbagz “a-MA-zing”, and then, seeing that it was a mama tried meatbagz, started to sing the classic merle haggard song.

to say it made all of our nights would be an understatement.

arriving back at the hotel around 2 a.m. (the mexican place we ate dinner at was begining to wind down at this point), we ended our first day exhausted, yes, but completely happy and more than a little amazed at where our adventure had taken us thus far.
